The East Midlands

Information about Derbyshire

Derbyshire is in the centre of England and has a population of around 780,000.

Derbyshire is a place of geographical and social contrasts. It has several heavily built-up areas and large, sparsely populated rural areas much of which is within the Peak District National Park.

There are 10 district and borough councils in Derbyshire, including Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Erewash, High Peak, North East Derbyshire, South Derbyshire, Derby City and Peak District National Park.

The M1 motorway and railway links provide good north to south communications in the east of the county.

The East Midlands

Information about Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire is a county in the East Midlands region of England which includes the districts of Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe. In 2017, the county was estimated to have a population of over 800,000.

The county is served by two railway lines, the Midland Main Line, which links London to Sheffield via Nottingham and the East Coast Main Line from London to Doncaster, Leeds, York, Newcastle upon Tyne. The M1 motorway runs through the county, connecting Nottingham to London, Leeds, and Leicester by road.

The closest airports are East Midlands Airport and Doncaster Sheffield Airport. As well as local bus services throughout the county, Nottingham and its suburbs have a tram system, Nottingham Express Transit (NET).

The East Midlands

Information about Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire is a county in the East Midlands of England with a population of around 750,000.

The county is split into the two unitary authorities of North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire.

It is the southernmost county in the East Midlands region and apart from the county town of Northampton, other major population centres include Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Rushden and Daventry.

The East Midlands

Information about Rutland

Rutland is England’s smallest, and one of the country’s most beautiful counties.

Bordering Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, Rutland is home to the market towns of Oakham and Uppingham, as well as Rutland Water, a large artificial reservoir that is an important nature reserve for the region.

The total population of the county is 41,000.

The East Midlands

Information about Leicestershire

Leicestershire is a county within the East Midlands which is made up of the following districts and boroughs: Blaby, Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley & Bosworth and Melton.

Leicestershire takes its name from the city of Leicester located at its centre. With a population of more than 300,000, Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country.

Leicester is connected by the M1 motorway and East Midlands Airport.

Information about Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire is a county in the East Midlands of England, with a long coastline on the North Sea to the east.

The population of Lincolnshire is under 1 million people, 97,000 of which live in the City of Lincoln. The county is mainly rural with limited transport links.

Save the date for the Nottingham Women's Centreentre Open Day 2025!

Expect delicious food, lots of taster sessions, and opportunities to try out different activities, including: Zumba, Salsa and Bachata, Crafting and Poetry, as well as the opportunity to explore the Library and Archive.

You can also meet the centre's Therapy and Casework teams and have a tour of the building.

Timings of the day with be 10.30am to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm.
